<p>Have you been fighting a battle against smoking but can&#8217;t seem to win? Have you spent your hard earned cash for various treatments and medications that have convinced smokers like you that they are 100% effective but don&#8217;t seem to have that much effect?</p>
<p>That&#8217;s because you really can&#8217;t quit smoking if you just rely purely on these therapies alone. You have to help yourself, because withdrawal symptoms are at their strongest when you&#8217;re not inside a clinic having your smoking cessation therapies.</p>
<p>Here are a few of the methods that smokers have used outside of their quit smoking therapies to win their battle to become a non smoker. Choose the one you&#8217;re most comfortable with or all 4 of them.</p>
<p><strong>Delay</strong></p>
<p>Every time you get the urge to puff, try to delay it. Say, delay it for a few minutes, to half an hour, to an hour, to a day. Delay it for as long as you can. This will help you strengthen your threshold against the cravings you are going through.</p>
<p>Do not get frustrated, however, if you can&#8217;t completely overcome the smoking addiction right away. It&#8217;s natural to relapse. A lot of smokers, especially those who&#8217;ve just begun to find the courage to quit, have a weaker threshold. So when the urge gets a grip on you and you simply can&#8217;t evade smoking by delaying it, than proceed to the second D- deep breathing.</p>
<p><strong>Deep Breathing</strong></p>
<p>Deep Breathing and meditation have long been proven to effectively help smokers kick the habit. They are perfect aids especially when you&#8217;re going through withdrawal symptoms. Smokers who try to quit often experience headaches, dizziness, and fidgeting, deep breathing and meditation can help you to relax yourself from within until the urge fades away.</p>
<p>Deep breathing and meditation work from the inside out, they help you focus on your inner strengths and identify your weaknesses- in this case, nicotine addiction. Quit smoking hypnosis is an excellent way to overcome the urges and to relax</p>
<p><strong>Drink Water</strong></p>
<p>If the urge to smoke is really bad and you have to do something about it, try drinking water instead. Water refreshes the body and flushes out toxins. It doesn&#8217;t give the same effects as nicotine but it can help to calm you down. Remember the longer you go without a smoke the sooner you&#8217;ll be able to overcome withdrawal symptoms, once the body has completely rid itself of nicotine the less you&#8217;ll want to smoke</p>
<p>Every time you can&#8217;t face the urge using the 3 steps mentioned above, you can always do something else and make it hard for you to smoke. Exercise, work out in the gym, help in doing household chores, paint, dance, do some gardening. Do anything that keeps your hands full and your mind preoccupied.</p>

<p>The best way to quit smoking cold turkey is to make a swift clean cut away from cigarettes. Make a firm decision that you have had your last ever cigarette, and don&#8217;t look back.</p>
<p>Many people make promises to themselves about quitting smoking. They say things like &quot;I&#8217;ll quit when I&#8217;ve finished this pack&quot; or &quot;next week when things have calmed down at work, I&#8217;ll be able to quit&quot;. These are just different forms of procrastination: of putting off till tomorrow what you never really intended to do today.</p>
<p>Sometimes it&#8217;s better to not think about quitting smoking in a certain time frame, but to quit smoking cold turkey &#8211; to do it right away. As soon as the idea comes into your mind, say to yourself &quot;I am quitting right now&quot;. But don&#8217;t do it as a knee jerk reaction, make sure you are really ready so you give yourself the best chance to quit for good.</p>
<p>Throw away all remaining cigarettes, even the packs you have stashed away for emergencies. Throw them somewhere you can&#8217;t retrieve them from; leave yourself with no way of finding a cigarette anywhere.</p>
<p>The reason for this is that having those cigarettes in the house will make it easier for you to slip up and if you have to actually have to go out and buy a packet of cigarettes, it makes it that bit harder to &quot;have just one&quot;.</p>
<p>Let everyone know that are quitting and try and get your friends and family involved to support you, if you can, although this may be hard if they are smokers too. Other smokers don&#8217;t want you to quit because it makes them look bad because they haven&#8217;t and, since misery loves company the want you to smoke too! Beware of those who want to sabotage your efforts!</p>
<p>Getting your head around quitting is a really important issue. Keep telling yourself that &quot;I used to smoke, but now I don&#8217;t&quot;. Think of yourself as a non-smoker. Remind yourself how much better your life is now that you have quit. You will be healthier, you will have loads more energy and spare money to treat yourself in other ways.</p>
<p>Have a goal in mind as a reward, but make sure it isn&#8217;t centered around food or you may find that you have to go on a weight loss program shortly after quitting. Continue to reward yourself frequently because you successfully quit smoking cold turkey. Make a big deal of putting your &quot;smoking&quot; money aside and build a nest egg to spend on rewards.</p>
<p>When you quit smoking cold turkey, you need to have some other activates lined up to satiate yourself when you get the urge to smoke. Some things you might try instead of lighting up include yoga, deep breathing exercises, hard candies, gum, walking and anything else you can think of that will get your mind off of smoking and on to healthier activities.</p>

<p>The benefits of stopping to smoke are many, and they embrace many aspects among which we can highlight:</p>
<p>It improves your health, it improves your body aspect, and it improves your economy HOW DOES YOUR HEALTH IMPROVE</p>
<p>Stopping to smoke only 20 minutes, recovers the normal level of the arterial pressure, the heart frequency and the feet and hands temperature.</p>
<p>8 hours after stopping to smoke we begin to have a better lung oxygenation normalizing the monoxide of carbon and oxygen levels.</p>
<p>After 24 hours it diminishes the risk of a sudden death.</p>
<p>After 48 hours you begin to recover the senses of smell and taste</p>
<p>72 hours later, the breathing function is normalized</p>
<p>1 to 3 months later, your physical capacity will be increased, that is to say that you will be less tired</p>
<p>9 months later the risk of infections will decrease and the bronchial drainage will improve</p>

<p>Another thing that will increase the success possibilities, is that you supplement your plan with some substitution system as chewing gums, nicotine patches or antidepressants (if the doctor prescribes them)</p>
<p>Keep in mind that the strong desire to smoke will be more intense the first days after leaving the cigarette, but it will diminish every week, and to the fourth month you will hardly feel it. DAMAGES THAT THE CIGARETTES PRODUCE</p>
<p>The nicotine is an addictive drug, and as every drug it generates dependence and it enslaves the smoker for the rest of his life.</p>
<p>We all have to die some day, but half of the smokers die as consequence of his bad habit, and they live about 20 years less than the non smokers.</p>
<p>The tobacco contains almost contains 50 chemical substances recognized as cancer producers.</p>
<p>Almost all the of the lung cancer cases take place among the smokers</p>

<p>To show more security and maturity.</p>
<p>Because all the friends do it and we fear to be different</p>
<p>The publicity it induces it</p>
<p>The sportsmen, actors and people that we admire do it</p>

<p>To smoke removes my appetite</p>
<p>I am not a vicious one</p>
<p>I can leave the cigarette when ever I want to</p>
<p>It is not going to harm me</p>
<p>I will leave it later on</p>
<p>Everybody dies of something</p>
<p>etc.</p>
<p>These addicts will spend their money daily in poisoning their health, their family and the environment, and they will follow doing it even when the cigarette has affected seriously different parts of their organism.</p>
<p>We also have to highlight that these physical addicts to the tobacco, also suffer other two addictions:</p>
<p>The psychological addiction to the cigarette</p>
<p>The social addiction to smoke in group</p>
<p>WHY IS IT SO DIFFICULT TO STOP SMOKING?</p>
<p>To stop to smoke is difficult because of the nicotine. The nicotine is as addictive as the worst drugs, and it is a product that is a natural part of the tobacco.</p>
<p>With the course of the time, the smoker becomes physical and psychologically addict to the nicotine, and to be able to stop smoking he needs to be liberated from both dependences.</p>
<p>Every time that you smoke, the nicotine penetrates the lungs and from there it goes to the sanguine torrent that carries it to the whole body, it does not only affect the lungs but also the heart, the circulatory system, the hormonal system, the metabolism, the brain, the maternal milk, the amniotic liquid, the placenta and the babies of the pregnant ones.</p>
<p>As all drugs, the nicotine produces a pleasure sensation, and it is this sensation the one that makes the person want to smoke again, and to need more cigarettes as it affects nervous system (what of course increases the nicotine quantity in blood). Finally, once achieved a high level of nicotine in blood, the smoker needs to smoke to maintain that level.</p>
<p>When a vicious one tries to abandon the drug from which he depends, it suffers what is known as the abstinence syndrome. This syndrome is characterized by diverse physical and psychological symptoms.</p>
<p>Psychologically the smoker feels that he lacks something, it has suffered a strong change in his behavior, and for that reason sometimes to feel better, he needs to substitute the real cigarettes with plastic cigarettes and other things.</p>
<p>Physically, when stopping to smoke they can feel many different symptoms like:</p>
<p>Irritation</p>
<p>Anxiety</p>
<p>Lack of concentration</p>
<p>Depression</p>
<p>Insomnia</p>
<p>Headaches</p>
<p>Fatigue</p>
<p>Appetite increase</p>
<p>Regarding the appetite increase, I need to highlight that it is more a myth that a consequence, since in those cases that the appetite increases, the increase that takes place is really light, and it disappears in little time.</p>
<p>When the symptoms of the abstinence syndrome come, if the person lacks enough motivation and doesn&#8217;t practice some kind of anxiety control, he starts smoking again, until he recovers enough nicotine to do not feel those symptoms.</p>
<p>How much is it necessary to smoke so that the abstinence symptoms come?</p>
<p>It is enough with having smoked a significant quantity during some weeks</p>
<p>When will the symptoms be presented?</p>
<p>The symptoms will be presented a few hours after having smoked the last cigarette, and they will reach their intensity pick in 2 to 3 days.</p>
<p>How much time can we have abstinence symptoms?</p>
<p>This depends on each person and of the quantity of nicotine in blood that each person has gotten used, but the physical symptoms usually last from some days to several weeks, while the psychological symptoms can last during several years.</p>
<p>THE PASSIVE SMOKERS</p>
<p>The addicts to the tobacco not only poison and mortgage their own lives, but rather they also produce a serious contamination of the environment, and they put in risk the health of those who surround them.</p>
<p>The mothers that smoke have high possibilities to have children with asthma, especially if they smoke during the pregnancy. And they also have bigger risk of having smoking children, and children with sudden death, otitis, colds and bronchitis.</p>

<p>There are many methods to stop smoking, and among the better known ones I can mention</p>

<p>As we are approaching a new year, it is imperative that we start writing out our resolutions. For some of us, quitting smoking can be found on top of the list.</p>
<p>Honestly, to quit smoking is a very daunting task that you can face in your lifetime. This may sound ridiculous to people who don&#8217;t smoke; since they also face daunting situations. But this is something I have experienced. I was a smoke for about thirty seven years and I know that I took extraordinary efforts to overcome it. Nowadays, a lot of people think that it is good to quit smoking. And as such; smoking has become a habit that poses embarrassment to smokers. Nobody can willing admit that he smokes. When we come in contact with new individuals, we cannot readily them that we smoke.</p>
<p>There are some tips found below that will help you on your decision to quit smoking. You should follow them properly in order to win this battle against smoking. Don&#8217;t take them for granted because they might seem to be simple guidelines. They are simple, but they can benefit immensely.</p>
<p>Regular exercise</p>
<p>You should take a walk periodically. Most experts recommend that you engage in some form of exercise. It is only natural that we talk a walk sometimes, to improve our health conditions. I would right want you to continue walking as it helps you keep off cigarettes; yes, it makes you focus on more important things.</p>
<p>Exercising for about twenty minutes daily is very helpful. But you can only exercise just once a day. This is why taking a walk is far better. Walking can be done in the morning or at evenings. No special clothing is needed neither do you need appointment at the gym. It is essential that you take a walk after eating your meal. It is not necessary that you walk down the streets; because I remember talking a walk in front of my TV set. This will help you when most certainly you would have gone for a stick of cigarette.</p>
<p>How water helps in quitting smoking</p>
<p>Drinking a lot of water too has been found to help people quit smoking. You should take just water and not soda, coffee or alcohol. A glass of water with sliced lemon can do you a lot of good. You should keep your glass of water close to you. Whenever the urge to smoke arises, you can always take a sip of it.</p>
<p>Taking up a handicraft</p>
<p>You can as well participate in new activities that will make you quit smoking. A lot of people do scrapbooking, knitting and many other handicrafts. This kind of outlet will gradually erase the idea of smoking from your mind. The handicraft you go for should be something you can do without anybody&#8217;s help. If it involves depending on somebody, you can easily fail to quit smoking. Therefore, choose a craft or hobby that you can really enjoy without the presence of other people.</p>

<p align="justify">It is difficult for the likes of you and me to hear anything negative about our dear cigarettes, which provide us the power to deal with the most difficult situations. But the state heads think otherwise, as per them smoking stinks and it provides fertile environments for life shortening diseases and hence the slap of Ban.</p>
<p align="justify">Now what will happen to the large chunk of people who love smoking? Well one of the safest solutions is to join the brigade of quitters. But as all of us know it may not be that easy. In fact it is a Herculean task which only few can achieve. Smoking is a habit which is easy to form but difficult to leave. Even when one determines to leave smoking, it reoccurs with vengeance. One is left to suffer like a fish without water.</p>
<p align="justify">A question to all the smokers of the world; Do you actually like seeing yourself in that state; where you are practically dependent on a piece of cigarette, without which your living becomes miserable? I don&rsquo;t, am sure even you don&rsquo;t like it, although we all try to defend our smoking habit by giving one or the other reason, but in our hearts we all know that it is the worst habit that we ever picked in our life.</p>
<p align="justify">The biggest problems in quitting smoke are the cravings. When we smoke, nicotine enters our brain cells through blood and activates our pleasure producing cells. The effect produced is overpowering, in order to return to the same pleasurable state we smoke again and this is how we get addicted to it. But when we want to quit we face problems like anxiety, uneasiness, troubled state of mind, excitement, pain in the head and body, upset stomach, diarrhea etc. If one doesn&rsquo;t have a strong willpower he is bound to get defeated by these cravings.</p>
<p align="justify">But now there is a ray of hope for our less will powered friends in the form of Chantix. Chantix is a FDA approved drug which has recently been launched. <p>Alongside the constant effort to encourage more smokers to quit smoking is the ever-present question as to whether smoking should be banned in public places.  A lot of arguments have stemmed from this topic and many a friendship has ended because of this debate.  Here are some of the strongest arguments for banning smoking in public places.</p>
<p>The most common complaint and the most obvious reason would be the effort of tobacco smoke on the surrounding environment.  Now, this includes a wide range of things.  There is the natural environment to look out for, and the health of the people in the immediate surroundings.  Studies have shown that passive smokers suffer a great deal more than is imagined and this is a big reason why a push for banning smoking in public places is so important.  Adults constantly exposed to cigarette smoke have been found to be more susceptible to developing the same smoking-related illnesses as the smokers themselves.  Cancers, lung disease, and asthma are the most common diseases.  Even worse, cigarette smoke in public places also harms children. Asthma and middle ear infection are the most noted illnesses of children exposed to second-hand smoke. Finally, the environment is also a victim of passive smoke as this adds to pollution- a problem that is already an increasing point of alarm worldwide.  With all these facts in mind, banning smoking in public places seems like the most logical preventive measure.</p>
<p>Other reasons often heard have to do with work as well.  Smoking increases illnesses and illnesses lead to absenteeism.  Employers would serve themselves in promoting a smoke-free office.  The fact that the chance to smoke is greatly lessened is one way to keep employees healthier. On a similar note, the employer is also duty-bound to protect other non-smoking employees from those hazards of being exposed to tobacco smoke.  A ban on smoking in the office is definitely one way to solve all these attendant problems.</p>
<p>Finally, banning smoking in public places helps the person desperately trying to quit smoking actually quit.  Triggers left by second hand smoke, which include the smell of the tobacco smoke in general, the smell left on clothes and other people&#8217;s persons, and the general view of smokers, push the temptation to light up even further to the forefront.  Opinions given often show that people trying to quit smoking feel that they would be greatly encouraged by an environment more conducive to their new, cigarette-free lifestyle.  Thus, banning smoking in public places also helps increase the number of quitters.</p>
<p>Generally, the feeling is that public places are places for everyone; hence, there should be some responsibility to ensure each person&#8217;s freedom. One aspect of this freedom is the right to inhale fresh air and not to be exposed to harmful health hazards. Passive smoking, no matter how far away still appears harmful to most.  And this is the most basic reason why smoking should be banned in public places.</p>

Basically, your whole body needs plenty of oxygen.  Besides the major problems I already discussed, smoking also affects your teeth, fat deposits, and many other areas of the body.</p>
